Lisburn started 2012 off with a hard fought victory away to Letterkenny Blaze with captain H Byrne having an outstanding game with 20 points.

The first quarter saw a nervous start from Lisburn as shots failed to drop from good positions, great work from D Duke and L O’Niell under the boards prevented Blaze from gaining anything from their height advantage in this opening quarter. E Morris opened the scoring off a nice move to the basket and O Lennon followed it up quickly with a second basket to put Lisburn in the lead, however Blaze fought back and despite C O’Doherty and A Mathews getting several good steals Lisburn couldn’t capitalise and trailed by 1 point.

LISBURN V CARRICKMACROSS ROCKETS – Sunday 15th January 11.45am

Starting 5 were D Durkan, P Ferguson, M Gorman, J Lynn and M White. They were under instructions from their coach Scott McLean to try to take an early lead, and they didn’t disappoint. Lisburn started out strong with the first point of the game scored by J Lynn. Durkan managed to impress the spectators with a dunk very early on. Carrickmacross stood a strong charge against Ferguson, it took a few seconds for him to get back on his feet.  Durkan finished the quarter with a one handed dunk. End of 1st Quarter score Lisburn 18 Rockets 2

A bit of Good News. On Sunday 29th January we will run a Jamboree Day. Our Proposal to Basketball Ireland was that we keep it on our normal training session day and times but we encourage all our players to invite friends to come to their training session as a one off. If they are interested in joining they can .

We will supply the coaches with some prizes for competitions they can run. Some of the teams are due to run their free throw competition that day so this can still go ahead for them as it will only take up part of the session.

Any questions please get back to Breda. Can coaches and team managers please let all the players know that they can invite friends on  Sunday 29th January 2012.

Our Senior ladies continued their winning streak with a comprehensive win over Ulster Elks at Jordanstown last Wednesday night. We ran out winners 68-22 with our scores coming from N Smye 17pts,  H Fairbairn 14pts,  E Feldhake 12pts, S Dick 11pts,  S Moyes 6pts, F Dick  6pts and H Walsh 2pts. Next up is an away trip to Tyrone Towers on Sunday 29 January 2012.
